Tooligans

Tooligans is a blog/newsletter that covers people in West Michigan who enjoy making things -- anything from a rocket stove to a hand forged knife to a battery-powered gyrocar.

In a region that’s home to more than 1.5 million people, there are hundreds of individuals who are inventing, crafting and fabricating in basement workshops, garages, community colleges and makerspaces.

Half of the fun of making something is to show your project to others, maybe even tap their experience to work through a snag.  But there’s a problem: do-it-yourself projects often are exactly that. The art of fabrication is many times a solitary endeavor until it’s ready for show-and-tell.

This blog aims to fill that void with behind-the-workbench stories and items that report new resources and happenings.

Its editor is Matthew Gryczan, a journalist and former engineer who has been involved in the Maker movement in Michigan since 2008. Matthew has notched up more than 140 homemade projects over the course of his life in a wide range of fields, so he appreciates the time and effort it takes to get something to completion.

So it’s time for show-and-tell! Use the button below to send Matthew story ideas about yourself or others, comments about Tooligans or anything else on your mind.
